You Have the Green Light to Save & Conserve

Corporations and  institutions nationwide  are actively  enrolling in the Green
Lights Program sponsored  by the Federal Environmental Protection Agency.
By voluntarily committing to this  energy conservation and pollution reduction
program,  Green  Lights members pledge  to upgrade the lighting in  90%  of
their  facility's areas with any combination  of options that reduce energy use
and improve efficiency.  These options  include the installation of  occupancy
sensors, upgrading lighting fixtures to meet federal energy standards and the
use of new lower wattage fluorescent and incandescent bulbs.

By taking advantage of recent technological
breakthroughs  in lighting,  businesses can
gain  substantial  benefits and  bring  their
lighting up to the federal standards. A group
relamping is the most cost-effective way to
meet the new requirements while:
  • Reducing overall lighting costs while
    getting better lighting;
  • Improving the appearance of their
    businesses with deluxe color lighting
that gives furnishings and decor a
    more attractive and appealing look;
  • Improving light levels for safety
    and productivity.

In additon, the installation of occupancy sensors is another
energy management technique which allows commercial
business the opportunity to realize a substantial reduction in
their energy costs. Occupancy sensors monitor human
presence turning light fixtures on the minute someone enters
the area and off automatically when they leave. Lighting
consistently accounts for 40 to 50% of a modern building's
total energy consumption; yet, many building spaces are
occupied for only 30  to  60%  of the daily operating hours.
The rest of the time, the lights are on unnecessarily, which
wastes energy and money.

There  is  often  an  investment  tax  credit   available  for
new  installations.  Many utility companys offer  economic

incentives in the form of rebates to commercial users for installing energy conservation technology.
These rebates and possible financing programs, can be combined to minimize the initial investment
required.  Another source of savings is that  reduced  lighting  useage  extends  the  intervals in re-
lamping  and  lamp-ballast maintenance  schedules.   Occupancy sensors also generate long-term
savings on air conditioning costs, since the heat generated by lamps and ballasts is reduced.
